Our local engagement to save endangered civilization and culture
Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok, together with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, and HiveSters, are delighted to announce that they will work in partnership on a community project called APPEAR. The inspiring initiative was created to improve and promote sustainable tourism in Thailand, and share expertise in the support of endangered local communities in Bangkok. APPEAR currently supports six local communities, including the Ban Bu, by helping to preserve their traditions and improve livelihoods through tourism.
With the support of Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit on various initiatives, the APPEAR project can help further strengthen the sustainability policy of communities, promote sustainable travel activities that help preserve local traditions, help retain cultural identity, improve livelihoods, and find innovative solutions to address community development challenges. The Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit concierge team is currently engaging with the Ban Bu community to promote sustainable travel activities in Bangkok to the international traveler.
Ban Bu is a community of artisans and expert smiths, famous for its khan long hin or stone-polished bronze bowl production. Over the generations, artisans have continued to preserve their legacy of traditional craftsmanship. The captivating and atmospheric historic neighborhood is also renowned for the painting masterpiece at Suwannaram Temple, and the production of an authentic Thai dessert known as rae-rai.
